Two kinds of PDF password

An open password (or user password) stops the PDF opening at all; to remove it you need to know it, and no honest tool can skip that step. A permissions password (or owner password) lets anyone open the file but tells PDF apps to block printing, copying or editing. Those restrictions can be removed without the password, and this tool does that.

FAQ

I forgot the password. Can you crack it?

No. A properly encrypted PDF can't be opened without its open password, and guessing tools only work for very short or common passwords.

Is it legal to unlock a PDF?

For your own files, or files you've been given the password to, yes. Don't use it to get round restrictions on documents you don't have the right to change.

Will the unlocked PDF look the same?

Yes. Only the encryption is removed; pages, text and images are unchanged.
